Community Update 7/9/2024
07/09/2024

Dear Piney Point Village residents,

We hope everyone is faring well after Hurricane Beryl yesterday. We know most of you are without power, and with temperatures expected to rise today, restoration is on the forefront of everyone’s minds.

Piney Point Village has issued a D

eclaration of Disaster, which enables us to expedite the recovery process and assist in reimbursement of certain disaster-related expenses. We have also enacted a curfew from midnight to 6:00 am to assist the MVPD in keeping our community safe. Thank you for your cooperation!

We have some good news to report. CenterPoint trucks are on Piney Point Rd. and Iris Lee, with buckets up, fixing a main transmission line first and planning to repair other connected lines. We ask that residents be mindful of not walking or biking near or around the trucks and equipment and conversing with CenterPoint workers so they can expedite the repairs.

CenterPoint crews have started restoration efforts and are mobilizing nearly 12,000 frontline resources to restore power. We have heard reports that CenterPoint will be providing more details on a restoration schedule later today.

Memorial Dr. at Ames Cir is closed in both directions. Please avoid the area. Traffic signals at Piney Point Rd. at Memorial Dr., Blalock and Memorial Dr. and Memorial Dr. at Farnham Park and Kinkaid School Dr. are all out. Use caution while traveling in those areas, especially at night, and treat them as four-way stop signs.

Immediately following the storm, Piney Point Village tree contractors and I drove throughout our City to clear major roadways to enable emergency vehicles to pass as well as tree blockage on residential streets. If you have trees on your property that are leaning on or touching power lines or see downed lines, please call CenterPoint at 713-207-2222. Piney Point Village city works and contractors are continuing to address downed trees and branches on roadways and debris.

We ask that you place your disaster-related tree debris on the City right of way, off the sidewalks and the streets. GFL's regular trash services resume today. Service that is normally scheduled on Monday and Thursday will resume on

Thursday this week, and recycling will resume next week to ensure all household trash and bulk is properly collected.

Piney Point Village staff and I are working out of the fire station, managing disaster recovery efforts. MVPD non-emergency 713-365-3700 VFD 713-465-3700. In case of emergency dial 911.

Thank you so much for your support and cooperation as we focus on Hurricane Beryl recovery efforts!

Sincerely,

Aliza Dutt

Mayor of the Village of Piney Point Village
