Community Update 5/31/2024
05/31/2024
Dear Piney Point Village Residents,

It’s hard to believe that just two weeks ago we were hard hit by the severe “straight line” windstorm! As we are enjoying air-conditioned comfort again, here is some information that may be helpful as we continue to clean up and repair damages.

Harris County will complete its first round of debris collection this week. They are planning four rounds of pickup in our area. As of May 29, 7,811 cubic yards have been collected. Just for reference of magnitude, a typical dump truck will hold around 10-24 cubic yards. Please remember to keep the debris on the City right of way, off the sidewalks and streets so pedestrians can pass. Also, make sure the debris area is clear of vehicles or the County trucks won’t be able to reach it.

Our May 24 Community Update email listed ways the City can assist you in expediting the repair process. You can access all community updates at www.cityofpineypoint.com. The Piney Point Village Beautification Committee has also kindly offered their services to help residents pick out replacement trees, including suggestions on species, proper placement within the yard based on selections etc. Please email Michael Phillips mphillips@alliancerepro.com for more information.

The severe storm certainly left a path of destruction for many of us, including the loss of property and electricity that greatly disrupted our daily lives. Thank you, neighbors, for supporting those who needed extra care, including our seniors and those with medical conditions. It’s our incredible residents who make the most impact in our community!

We’d like to recognize Harris County Commissioner Pct. 3 Tom Ramsey who immediately offered to help the Memorial Villages, including Piney Point, with tree debris pickup. State Representative Mano DeAyala who helped keep the information flow among the villages, districts, and Centerpoint. Many thanks to U.S. Representative Wesley Hunt’s office for proactively communicating with me the priority restoration of critical areas in Piney Point Village. We’re deeply grateful for the steadfast and clear leadership of Police Chief Schultz, the coordination of Fire Chief Miller and, of course, the hard-working men and women of the MVPD and VFD!

As always, feel free to contact City Hall at 713-782-0271, City Administrator Bobby Pennington at cityadmin@pineypt.org or me aliza@pineypt.org. We are happy to help.

A special congratulations to all Piney Point Village students who just graduated, job well done!

Sincerely,

Aliza Dutt

Mayor of the City of Piney Point Village
