Dear Piney Point Residents,
It has been a privilege to serve as Piney Point mayor and city council member prior to that. Reflecting on the past two years as mayor, I am proud of the collective accomplishments achieved by city council, staff, and, you, our residents.
Notable highlights of my tenure include leading our City through the 2024 Derecho Storm and Hurricane Beryl. By working closely with staff, Memorial Villages Police Dept. (MVPD), Village Fire Department (VFD), other Memorial Villages and Harris County Precinct 3, we ensured a coordinated response and recovery. We enhanced emergency preparedness and public communication, and advocated for infrastructure and resiliency improvements from CenterPoint including concrete poles and smart meters that you have seen being installed.
We also spearheaded efforts to streamline generator permitting and modernized our development and permitting processes by introducing an online portal and optimizing staffing. I anticipate continued technological improvements in automation and AI as they become more affordable and reliable to continue efficiencies.
Public safety remained a top priority; under MVPD’s leadership, the Memorial Villages consistently ranked among the safest communities in Texas. During my term, we supported law enforcement needs, enhanced public safety regulations, including e-bikes, park safety, and school zones. The City maintained prudent fiscal management through balanced budgets, clean audits, capital planning, and conservative financial practices.
We have worked hard to preserve residents’ needs, notably Piney Point’s unique feature as the sole Memorial Village with an R-1 zoning designation, a purely single-family residential district that aims to create exclusive family-living and limit density. At the same time, Piney Point greatly benefited from working within the collective Memorial Villages, an influential entity in Harris County. VFD serves all six villages and MVPD serves three -- Piney Point, Hunters Creek and Bunker Hill. The Villages coordinate efforts during disasters and aftermath, and throughout the year. One key collaboration was the securing of the Memorial Drive roadway and pavement improvements currently in progress. Appreciation to Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey for funding the project. The Memorial Villages also work together in our community events, including the highly anticipated July 4th Parade and Festival. We hope you’re enjoying the American Flags along major roadways!

It has been a blessing for my husband and I to raise our three children in Piney Point, a safe and idyllic community where neighbors support each other every day and in times of need, and appreciate our hometown heroes at MVPD and VFD. It has been a true honor to serve you. I remain committed to the well-being of our City and am always available at afdutt@comcast.net or for a chat along Piney Point Road!
Sincerely,
Aliza Dutt
Mayor, Piney Point Village
